چکیده
Abstract Introduction Lung ventilation is a standard sign of life in newborns. Post-mortem computed tomography (PMCT) highly sensitive to the presence gas body including lungs. Current examinations determine pulmonary status newborns are flotation test and histology. The purpose this study was compare accuracy PMCT with for determining lung histological control as reference standard. A cut-off value CT number Hounsfield Units (HU) should be established. Methods total 38 infant lungs were examined which 21 from infants deceased shortly after live birth (control group) 17 belonged where question (study group). All using PMCT, test, examination. Results group showed an overall mean attenuation ± deviation −219 HU 135; 45 15 histologically nonventilated versus −192 207 HU; ( p < 0.001) ventilated best optimal discrimination −35 HU. Conclusion equally well suited test. It provides additional information regarding infiltration, degree putrefaction, or signs trauma (fractures, pneumothorax). Histology remains mandatory ambiguous cases.

Post-mortem computed tomography in adults
There has been increasing interest in recent years in a new application of cross-sectional imaging, that of investigation of cause of death. A perceived public distaste for invasive autopsy, fuelled in part by the organ retention scandals of the late 1990s, coupled with disquiet about the fitness-for-practice of the coronial system, has led to a search for a less invasive alternative. A post-mo...

Pain is a major concern in all intensive care units (ICUs). The proper assessment and management of pain is one of the main goals of patient care in ICUs. Improper evaluation of pain and its over or under treatment can cause significant problems in the process of patient management in ICU. Since most ICU patients are unable to communicate correctly with the ICU team and explain their level of p...

متن کاملMultislice computed tomography is useful for evaluating partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection
Volume-rendered images, derived from multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT), can facilitate assessment of the morphology of partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection and are thus useful in pre-operative planning to prevent surgical morbidity and assist post-operative evaluations.
